Measuring Bracelets & Necklaces
Bracelets
Besides ring measurements, bracelets can be a tricky measurement and should be done with precision for the type of drape you want in a bracelet and so that you aren’t pulling on clasps too hard for closure. If you are buying a delicate bracelet with a thin chain, a snug fit might work better for you. If buying larger cuffs or bangles, go with a loose fit so your wrist is not suffocating (or sweating) in your jewelry.
Bracelets with clasp
If you are using a strip of paper, ribbon or cord, mark the end of the strip and then measure the length against a ruler. This is your wrist size. Add 1/2 inch additional to that for your final length. For chunky designs add another 1/2 inch to that final length. Most of my designs are fine and only require 1/2 inch additional. I will mention ‘chunky’ in descriptions and will also mention the need for the additional 1/2 inch.
Bangles
With bangles and wide cuffs, you want a loose fit. Here are tips for measuring for a bangle:
STEP 1: Pretend that you were putting on a bangle, closing your fingers over your thumb.
STEP 2: Using a strip of paper or tape measurement, wrap it around your hand at the widest point.
STEP 3: If you are using a plain strip of paper, mark your size with a pen on that paper. Then measure that paper strip on a ruler.
STEP 4: Add 1/2 inch to that length for loose drape.
